ROBERT PHILIP YOUNG

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our son Robert “Rob” Young at the Grace Hospital  on December 24th 2018 at the age of 51.

Rob was born in Winnipeg on May 22, 1967.

Rob is survived by his parents Jill and Craig Young,  brother Brad, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents Ross and Edna Hambly of Gimli, and Phil and Alice Young of Winnipeg, as well as Kae Davis, Aunt Lori Friedrich, Uncle Grant Hambly, Uncle Gary Hambly, and Uncle Rick Hambly.

Rob’s time at St. Amant were his happiest. He was at River Road Place in the cottage section for 10 years and then moved to a St. Amant sponsored group home in Winnipeg for his last year and a half.

Rob loved to be around people and socializing was a big part of his life. He was loved by all for his infectious laugh and his warm and pleasant demeanour. Rob was a kid at heart and loved to play practical jokes such as turning out the bathroom when someone had entered. He found this very funny and would laugh loudly. Rob loved all types of music. He attended music therapy at St. Amant and at his group home. Dad would always play him music when he came home for visits. He also loved to dance and was the life of the party.

When living in St. Amant or the group home, Rob participated in many outings in the community. He attended a Goldeye’s game, a Bomber game, numerous music events, overnight trips to Albert Beach, trips to the Zoo, etc.

He also loved to come to his parents’ place for regular visits. Here he would spend time with neighbours and friends, who were always glad to see him. Although visits home were enjoyable for him, he was happy to return to St. Amant or to his group home, which he shared with Peter and Joe. Rob could typically be found relaxing on the couch with his remote after returning from a fun filled time at his day program. We sincerely thank the day program staff at “Steps Resources” for making Rob’s days so enjoyable.

We are so very grateful for the care that Rob received during the time he spent at St. Amant and at the group home. Every single staff member that we were in contact with proved to be warm, compassionate, and truly caring individuals.

We cannot thank you enough!

A “Celebration of Life” and a luncheon will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 3, 2019 in the gymnasium at St. Amant River Road Place, located at 440 River Road. Those who wish to share stories about Rob are encouraged to do so.

Cremation has taken place and internment will occur at a later date. Donations to the St. Amant Foundation in memory of Rob would be greatly appreciated.

Parking is available in the visitor parking lots at St. Amant for a nominal fee. Enter the main building and ask directions to the gymnasium at the reception desk.
