JULIUS RUDOLF WAEDT

On April 8, 2019 Julius Rudolf Waedt, our husband, father, opa, and great-grandfather passed away.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Sonja; daughters Norma (Jeff) Younger and Barbara; son Helmut (Gwen); granddaughters Katy (Ross Mann), Christine, Allison, and Lindsay (Brian); great-grandchildren Ryan and Amy; sister Lotte Gross; and family in Austria.

Julius was born on May 17, 1927 in Sighisoara, Romania. Julius came to Canada in 1948 where he farmed with relatives in the Sanford, MB area. He and Sonja married in 1954 and they then moved to Winnipeg. The three children followed in quick succession. He became an independent business owner in the heating and air conditioning industry for over 40 years. He was a man of great integrity. His business succeeded through referrals and repeat customers.

His was an avid outdoorsman who greatly enjoyed travel, camping, target shooting, hunting, and fishing. A great deal of time was spent at the cottage at Twin Lakes Beach dragging a line behind a boat while watching the sun set with the best view possible. The lake provided countless hours of pleasure from the fishing, as well as gardening, windsurfing, and entertaining family and friends.

Julius was generous with his time for those who needed it. He was respected within his industry. He enjoyed his work immensely, loved a good party with family and friends, and took great pride in the activities of his granddaughters. He had a great sense of humour even though he wasn’t great at telling jokes! We miss him dearly.

Friends and relatives are encouraged to share in a eulogy, stories, and condolences for the family by commenting in the section on the right-hand side.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Julius’ name to L’Arche Winnipeg.

The family would like to thank the staff in Family Medicine at St. Boniface Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 603 Wellington Crescent and Academy Road (Unitarian Church).
