TOM WARREN
Peacefully, while surrounded by his family, Thomas Warren passed away at the Charleswood Care Centre on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at the age of 74 years.
He is survived by three sons, Tyler, Tanner (Ali) and Travis (Ginna); daughter Tiffany (Kevin) Vande Graaf; granddaughters Shaniah, Cassidy, Ella, Claire, and Taylor; Olga Warren; sister‐in‐law Bernice Minsky; brothers‐in‐law John Moncek Taras Federowich and friend Millie Krause as well as numerous nieces and nephews their families. He was predeceased by his parents Fredrick and Jeanette Warren; brothers Richard and Robert Warren; mother‐in‐law Helen Moncek and friend Manny Finkleman.
Tom (Tommy) was born in Winnipeg to Fredrick and Jeanette Warren. He had two brothers: Richard and Robert. Tom was proud of, and dedicated to, his North End roots. During his younger years Tom was a car enthusiast and belonged to the North‐ End Motorcycle Club. It was then he met the mother of his children, Olga (nee Moncek). Tom’s attention turned to raising his children and family life. Tom was a dedicated hockey dad and made time for fishing, camping and family road trips. Tom captured every opportunity to spend time outdoors in his yard and always made friends with his neighbors anywhere he lived. The one thing he loved to do was give everyone a nickname.
Tom worked for the Government of Manitoba for over 35 years. He became a successful building manager and moved onto a position that he completely loved as the Maintenance Grounds Keeper at the Headingley Correctional Centre. His passion for his flower garden at home extended to his professional career and he offered his mechanical know‐how to friends and family without taking a dime. He was known to be the type that always stopped at the side of the road when a car was broken down and taught his children of the art of the Winnipeg deal, “never pay retail”. To his children, dad provided a loving and caring home. As a caregiver, his approach was evident in everything he did for his family; from the pork buttons he cooked, to sewing hockey equipment and the interest he took in his children’s activities. His care and love was intergenerational. As a grandfather, Papa Tom always wanted to know about his grandchildren and know they were cared for. Papa Tom made them feel important and always made them laugh with his sarcasm and facial expressions.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Charleswood Care Centre for the compassion and companionship showed to Tom in his final years.
In his later years Tom was determined to live the life he could by persevering through challenging illnesses supported by his family. Tom nourished his relationships with the family throughout his life and those closest came to be with him over those years. His life touched so many and he will be greatly missed.
