She will also be missed by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends, too numerous to mention, but all close to her heart. She was predeceased by sons Michael and Roger (Trish) and sister Gertraud.
Mom was born in rural Germany on March 22,1933 and grew up the oldest of three children. Though times were tough in her youth she learned to value and appreciate every stitch and make the most of every mouthful. It was an ethic that never left her. Mom was never afraid of hard work.
It was during a work apprenticeship at a local factory, that she caught the eye of tall, strapping young man with big dreams of his own. In 1953 Anne joined her love in Canada where they were Wed on Christmas Day 1953. Anne and Uli celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary on December 25, 2017.
Being Mom to three boys wasn’t challenge enough for Mom. Her world was bigger. Once her children were old enough she went back to University and went on to become an accomplished educator, teaching German in the Hanover School Division at schools in Grunthal and Steinbach. respectively.
The friendships she made with colleagues and students alike, hold true to this day. A testament to the person who cared so much. Mom believed in the power of education, but she also knew that education didn’t always come from books.
Mom had many hobbies over the years from hip -at -the -time felt board crafts, to ceramics, rug hooking and finally her true hobby passion of quilting. More than a few hours, days, weekends and weeks were spent in the craft in room creating a one of a kind, unique and special quilt for someone. It was not uncommon for a quilt to hold a ‘secret’ that only Oma and the recipient were aware.
She loved her regular get togethers with her ‘quilting friends’, highlighted by the annual quilters getaway to the lake.
A celebration of Annelenne’s life will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 in the First Unitarian Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent.
