It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Seymour on February 23, 2019 at the age of 75 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Andrew is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Raylene; children Bill (Karen), Kim (Brent) and Trace; grandchildren Francheska (Colin), Adam, Laura (Jon), and Michael (Vivian); great-grandchildren Jana and Zane; and brother Al (Viola). He will also be missed by Karen (Ryan).; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Andrew was predeceased by his father Azariah; mother Jean; brothers Alvin and Charles; and sister Jemimah.

Andrew was born and raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia. In 1960 Andrew met Raylene Maxwell and they began their long life together. Their first two children, Bill and Kim, soon followed.

His work with Woolworth’s saw the family move to Regina, Calgary, Winnipeg, St John’s and finally back to Winnipeg where they finally settled. While in Regina their second son, Trace, was born.

Andy had a successful career in the food industry. As a young man he started sweeping floors at Woolworth`s in Sydney. He quickly worked his way up to food management, which brought him to western Canada. In 1979 he returned to Winnipeg and began working with Bowes in food sales, eventually retiring in 2014 from Dawn Foods as Administrative Sales Manager. Andy had a strong work ethic and was an inspiration to all.

Andy will be fondly remembered by many friends, some going back over 40 years. Always the social butterfly and with a wit quicker than most, Andy was liked by everyone he met. He was never shy to share a joke, assist with a building project or offer a drink. Late in life Andy met his fishing buddy Mike, who became like a son to him.

During his time with Woolworth’s in the late 70’s, Andy met Earl Johnson, the man who would shape many of his closest friendships going forward. Earl was Andy’s first significant friends made in Winnipeg and he introduced Andy to many of the people he called friends up to the day he passed including Don M, Don S, Scott, Gary, Karl and JR. These men formed the core group of his hunting buddies, but they became so much more to him over the years.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Kija, Andy’s palliative home care nurse, for her kindness, compassion and for making him feel special. Thank you to all the other nurses who worked with Andy.

 

The family would also like to thank the nurses, aides and staff on Palliative Care Unit E3 at Riverview Health Care Center. A special thank you to Dr. Ted for his wonderful support as well as to Cancer Care at the St. Boniface Hospital. 

The family would also like to thank Don Minty for his help and guidance during this difficult time.

We love you and you will be missed.
