With aching hearts, we say good-bye to Mom, grandma and great-grandma, formerly of Gladstone, Manitoba. On the morning of August 3, 2017, Mom began her journey to be reunited with husband Jack (1966), father William (1968), mother Katherine (1975) brother Bill (1999), son Wayne (2012) and daughter Darlene (2017).

Left with many memories, sister Florence; brother Ronald (Estelle); daughters Lynne (Bob) and Janette (Rob); daughter-in-law Colleen; sons Randy (Eleanore) and Larry (Helen). Also granddaughters Sarah, Tracey, Wanda, and Rhonda; grandsons Aaron, Laurie, Todd, Dale, Kelly, Tim, Brad, Brian and Darren; great-granddaughters Audrey, Brooke, Holly and Caitlin; great-grandsons Spencer, Andrew, Brendan and Aaron Jacob Wayne who would always make her smile.

Details of Mom's childhood are sketchy, probably because we really never asked and we should have. We have few details from Aunt Florence that Mom was born at Holtain near Clavet, Saskatchewan. She attended Lone Star School nearby. At age fifteen, she and her siblings followed their Mom to Manitoba. Mom attended Sinclairville school.

In Neepawa on June 16, 1938, Mom and Dad were married. In the spring of 1941, they moved to the Bear Creek district where Dad farmed a quarter section. On the farm, Mom worked hard holding down the "fort" while Dad did carpentry work in Gladstone to supplement the farm income. Mom was involved in community and school events. She was the "reporter" for the Bear Creek news which she phoned in weekly to the Gladstone Age.

Mom was an awesome cook as were the moms of that time. Visitors, expected and unexpected, never left hungry. Cabbage rolls, baking, pickles, jams, homemade noodles and the ultimate perogies, plum and saskatoon, smothered in browned butter. These perogies were literally to "die for".

Dad passed away in December of 1966. Mom, Randy and Janette remained on the farm until the fall of 1970. They moved to Winnipeg and stayed with family until Mom bought her mobile home. In 1972, her Home was moved to the Southglen Mobile Home Park. At the time, basically open prairie, she was one of the first "settlers" there. In the fall of 2002, she bought a new mobile home.

One of her favourite pastimes was to sit at her kitchen table and from her window watched the people of the park come and go. She watched the kids of the park grow up.

​

In the fall of 2015, she faced the fact she could no longer stay in her home. In November, she reluctantly agreed to move into the Tuxedo Villa Care Home. In February of 2016, at our request, she was transferred to Vista Park Lodge, closer to family. She still talked about going home even though she knew she never would.

​

We thank the staff of Vista Park Lodge for their care, especially, nurses Karen, Maggie and Jennifer who did everything they could to make sure Mom was comfortable in the last days of her life.
