Ray McGirr

February 6, 1923 - July 5, 2017

RAYMOND WILLIAM McGIRR

It is with great sadness the family announces that their dear husband and father, Raymond William McGirr, 94 years of age, passed away peacefully with family by his side on July 05, 2017.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Emmy Lou; his children Rebecca (Rosemary, Jocelynn, Korrena), Bill and Darlene ( William, Robert, Quinn), Jocelyn and Brian ( Dylan, Marshal, Jordan); and great-grand children Emily and Arthur.

Ray was born on February 06, 1923 to George and Jean McGirr in Medina Ontario. Ray enlisted in the RCAF during the Second World War and was married to the love of his life Emmy Lou on December 01, 1945. They were fortunate to spend 71 years of love and adventures together.

Ray remained in the RCAF until retirement in 1969. He started his second career as a Diesel Electric Manager on the Distant Early Warning (D.E.W.) Line in Northern Canada until his final retirement in 1984.

Ray was an accomplished artist. He created beautiful soapstone, whalebone and ivory carvings. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, (especially tomatoes) and computer technology.  He was an intelligent and analytical thinker, and delighted in solving every puzzle and mechanical issues presented to him. He was a master fixer and could literally “do anything”.

Ray was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first. He was proud of his family and took great pride in all of their accomplishments.

Rest in peace our dear Ray.

We will miss you.

A private family Celebration of Life has been held.
