GORDON EARL MOHR
Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of our husband, dad, step-dad, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Gord Mohr on May 27, 2019. He is at peace now after a lengthy battle with liver cancer and kidney disease. Gord absolutely loved being surrounded by his family and friends, so it is a great comfort to us all that Tim was with Gord in his final moments.
Left behind to reminisce are his loving wife, of 37 years, Pat; daughter Debbie (Sam); son Michael; step-daughter Kristen (Peter); step-son Tim (Kim); grandchildren Chris, Kelsey and Amy; sister Carolyn (Ron); sister-in-law Rae; nieces Candace (Corey), Donna, Tracey and their families; nephew Trevor Jr .and family as well as many other extended family and friends.
Our little 12-year-old puppy, Ollie, is really missing her “Papa.” She spends a lot of her time during the day on his bed waiting for him to come home.
Gord was born in Crystal City, Manitoba on July 5, 1937 to Ella and John Mohr. Though the family moved often with his dad’s work, Snowflake had a very special place in Gord’s heart. He will be laid to rest in the Pembina Valley at a later date this summer.
He had a successful career as a Stationary Engineer in several industrial plants, as well as a happy career at Bristol Aerospace Rocket Plant at Stony Mountain. His happiest time though, was after retiring at 55 and establishing his own construction business which he carried on for over 20 years. He taught himself carpentry with the utmost precision, studying under Mel and others and exercising his God-given gift of the mechanical. He enjoyed many hours basking in our 3-season room at the back of the house – one of his many accomplishments.
Gord was a sports enthusiast; he not only was part-owner of the Fort Garry Blues Junior Hockey Team, but played senior hockey with his buddies and team known as The Dirty Dozen. He had such fun in those days. He never missed a Jets Game on TV and loved the Bombers as well. For the past three years, he truly enjoyed the Banjo Bowl Game with Tim.
Early in January 2019, Gord and Pat learned of the seriousness and possible finality of Gord’s illness. However, Gord was steadfast in his faith, never wavering in his belief that he could “kick this thing.” He was stoic and strong throughout his final journey.
There is absolutely no other more significant time in Gord’s life than his service to his Springs Church family. Since 1987, he found it a place to grow personally, and understand the love of God. He cherished each and every hug he gave and received; adopting a whole lot of spiritual children along the way. Pat and Gord so looked forward to every January through April to study, memorize and rehearse lines for The Victor during its entire run. Gord became Nicodemus (or Nick) to many, and was very honoured with every greeting by that name.
An abundance of special thanks to all of Gord’s caregivers during the last stages of his illness; Dr. Tim Ross, Buhler Cancer Centre, Victoria General Hospital, Palliative Manitoba and Riverview Health Centre. Thank you to Pastors Ernest, Jeff and Leary for their visits to Gord, as well as the assistance of the hard working staff of Springs Church. Finally, an extra big shout-out to Lana, Palliative Care nurse, for going above and beyond. I, Pat, will never forget you.
In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, a contribution may be made to a charity of your choice. In keeping with Gord’s natural propensity, I urge you to hug everyone you love today, and hold on tight.
Friends and relatives are encouraged to share in a photo-tribute, eulogy, stories and condolences for the family by commenting in the comments section of this page.
A celebration of Gord’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Springs Church Conference Center - 725 Lagimodière Boulevard, with Pastor Ernest Goertzen officiating.
We love you Gord!
