JO-ANN MOFFATT
October 14, 1933 – June 17, 2017
Friends, family, neighbours and fellow community activists are mourning the sudden loss of Jo-Ann Moffatt.
Originally from Montreal, Jo-Ann was a fixture in the West End of Winnipeg for 20 years. Never seeking the limelight but always there to help, Jo-Ann joined countless groups and causes over the years to help improve her community. At her job as the Wolseley Constituency Assistant for the West End Commons office, she offered a sympathetic ear, sound advice and strong advocacy to anyone who walked through her door seeking help. A long-time Co-Chair of the Wolseley NDP, Jo-Ann rarely if ever missed a meeting and took on an enormous amount of the volunteer work to keep everyone connected and informed of upcoming events.
Jo-Ann was recently diagnosed with cancer, and faced her illness with a strength and dignity that was an honour to behold. As in everything in her life, she met the challenge head first and on her own terms. Staff at CancerCare Manitoba and the Grace Hospital provided exceptional care in her final days with us, and we are deeply grateful for their compassionate efforts.
Jo-Ann is survived by her husband of forty five years, Phil John Moffatt, and several beloved cats.
A celebration of Jo-Ann ’s life will be held on Thursday, June 29th at 11 am at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, 641 St. Matthews Avenue.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, Jo-Ann ’s community is encouraged to donate to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
