LOIS CATHERINE MOCAN
Born the daughter of Colin & Marian Hunter in Balcarres, Sask. Lois passed away peacefully with her family by her side September 17, 2017. She was predeceased by her mother, father and brother John. She leaves to mourn husband Patrick of 47 yrs, son Timothy (Val), daughter Tina-Tenita, four grandchildren, Christopher (Jannah), Curtis (Meghan), Tyler, and Timothy-Jr, one great granddaughter Arabella. Her sisters Karen, Lynne, Donna, Elaine (Jim), Elizabeth, Glenda (Denise), & brothers Thomas (Sharon), and Melvin (Patti).
Lois was born in Balcarres, SK, and grew up in Kelliher, SK, where she cherished fond memories, achievements, and adventures of family, school, and adolescence. She then moved to Regina, SK to further her independence and begin her own journey in life.
She was born a twin with her sister Lynne on July 23, 1946. They laughed at the same jokes, like to shop and collect things and although their paths were different, we would find that they would surround themselves with some of the same possessions and people that meant the most to them. They had a special bond that only twins could understand and share.
Her love for her mother, father, brothers and sisters and in-laws, and nephews and nieces was endless. She had a valuable, unique and treasured relationship with each and every one of them. She would often share stories and memories of tales from the past and present that would make us all laugh. They will always be a part of special moments that had meant everything to her.
She excelled in the partnership of being a wife with her husband Patrick. She was not only his wife but his companion, friend, confidant and love. They shared a life of growth, difficulties, and triumphs enjoying and treasuring the journey that they created along the way.
Her proudest moment and achievement in life was that of being a mother. She always had open arms, a kind heart, a healing touch, a listening ear, and unconditional love for her children. She provided a warm and safe place for her children to grow and thrive.
Her grandchildren were her newest zest for life, she loved watching them grow, learn and develop into fine young men. They will forever carry the very best qualities that she hoped to pass on to them. She was just recently blessed with the birth of her first great granddaughter, she truly adored their visits. Arabella, made her smile and laugh. She had fun shopping and passing the girly things on to her. She wanted all her grandchildren to have the happiest, fullest journey in life.
Within the journeys of her life she surrounded herself with many personal and valuable friendships and relationships. All those that enjoyed her love for life and laughter will remember her fondly as she would often look forward to visits, conversations and outings where she expressed moments of real joy with her friends.
Lois worked many jobs when she resided in Regina. She transferred with her husband Patrick to Winnipeg in 1969 where she enjoyed an administrative career with Crown Zeller back. Throughout her careers she did many hostess and waitress jobs which became very valuable when her and husband Patrick went on to own and operate 2 successful rural hotels in Manitoba, one in Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB (12 years) and the second in La Salle, MB (15 years). This is where she enjoyed creating great cooking and engaging fondly with customers, staff and friends. She loved to decorate the restaurant with her personal flare. She retired from working in the hotel in 2007 and enjoyed her winters in Arizona from 2009 to 2016.
She adored Elvis Presley, country music and memorabilia related to all things in the 50s/60s. Her favorite things included spending time with her family, shopping, baking and cooking, having coffee with friends, enjoying all kinds of sweets, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, bowling, camping, and providing weather updates to family and friends. She loved to travel, her favorite places included spending time in Regina, Hawaii, Las Vegas, winters in Arizona, and looked forward to her annual fun trips to Grand forks with her daughter.
To my wife, I miss you and hope where you have gone fulfills the rest of the dreams that we did not achieve in this life time. When we started on our journey together I brought you to a strange city, leaving our friends and family behind and knowing very few people except my co-workers. This is where we started to build our lives together. Over the years we made many friends and had a very fruitful life. From all the moves we made from Winnipeg, to Notre Dame de Lourdes to La Salle, bonding and friendships grew and many of them will miss you as much as I will. Our children were a mainstay for us and you always made time for them and gave them a sense of a true loving mother who helped them along in their life even when I was too occupied to help you. They are missing you as I am, I love you and if there is an afterlife I will see you in a while.
To our mother, words cannot express how affectionate and exceptional your love meant to us. You may have had a small stature but your heart was kind, pure and vast. We will both have loving, nurturing, fond, tender, and caring moments and memories that will fill our broken hearts. We will be forever grateful and lucky for every moment of time we had to spend with you. Your words and actions of compassion, understanding, discipline, support, comfort and unconditional love have grown, and developed us into the people we have become. We will treasure everything about you mom; your warm smile, your laugh, your gentle touch, your kisses and hugs, your beautiful expressive eyes, and your funny pronunciation of words that would make us giggle. You were priceless and we thank you for being a part of our lives, you were the most wonderful and precious mother a son and daughter could have in their lives. We know you loved us very much. We will see you in our dreams and memories, and hear you in a whisper or within a prairie breeze. We will miss you today, tomorrow and always… until we see each other again...
Lois will be preciously celebrated and remember as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Please join us in her celebration of life on September 26 2017 from 3pm to 6 pm at the Kingswood Golf & Country Club in La Salle Manitoba.
An additional celebration of life will take place in Regina, SK at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Manitoba Cancer Society.
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, he put his arms around you and said come to me.
With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away and although we loved you dearly we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our heart to prove to us he only takes the best
We will always & forever love you !
