MYLES PATRICK McCARTHY
Myles left in the peace he had always desired on Saturday, September 1, 2018 in the Palliative Care unit of Riverview Health Centre.
He was a largely self-taught artist from early years, drawing and painting anything and everything, often inspired by fantasy fiction. He continued to draw and paint throughout his life, saying “My eye is my camera.”
He worked for many years as a scenic artist, painting the huge backdrops required for operas and ballets. Besides scenery for the Houston Opera and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in an earlier Nutcracker, his work was seen in some unusual places: posters, rock band backgrounds, films, even Dollywood.
He travelled extensively, and particularly loved Mammallapuram, Tamil Nadu, south India, where he felt far more at home than in Canada. Srinivasan Ethiraj's family misses him greatly. As do his siblings, Lynne, Lawrence, Greg and Cathleen, nieces Megan, Shannon and Tara, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Larry and Ella.
We are grateful for the sensitive care from the wonderful nurses and doctors in the Palliative Home Care program and Palliative Care, Riverview Health Centre.
Cremation has taken place and Myles did not wish to have a memorial service. If you wish, a donation in Myles' memory can be made to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation.
