Margaret Goodridge
January 27, 1924 – January 4, 2017

With sorrow, we announce the death of Margaret Goodridge in the Grace Hospital on January 4, 2017, just weeks from her 93rd birthday.
Margaret is survived by her brother, Gord Petersen (Paulie); her sons, Douglas (Florance), Gerry (Mary-Ellen Foris), Ken (Laureen) and Jim (Donna); her daughter-in-law, Pennie Styan; grandchildren Cheryl, Dawn, Darlene, Rae, Neil, and Kate; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman Goodridge, parents, August and Ella Petersen, and siblings, Lilly Petersen, Evelyn Petersen, Paul Petersen (Kathrine), Gerda Bouchard (Joe), Vic Petersen, Anne Winmill (Art), and Lilly Thompson (Bob).
Margaret was born January 27, 1924 in Komarno, Manitoba, and lived most of her early life in St. James and Fort Whyte, Manitoba, moving to Fort Garry in 1959. She worked for Canada Packers before her marriage and Greater Winnipeg Gas Company/Centra Gas until retirement.
Marg loved sports and games, both as a player and a spectator. She was an excellent baseball player as a young woman, participated for many years in a bowling league, was an avid lawn and later carpet bowler, and enjoyed golf. She curled and later loved to watch curling. She many enjoyed attending the horse races with family and friends, and enjoyed many trips to the casinos in South Beach, Manitoba, and Mahnomen, Minnesota.
Marg enjoyed card games and played bridge for many years, continuing to play until the last weeks of her life. Her family had large cribbage games, which sometimes became spectator events for the rest of the family. In her later years, she loved to stay in touch with her family using her iPad. She loved Scrabble, and with her iPad, played Words with Friends with family and friends. She also enjoyed corresponding with her family by email on her iPad.
Marg greatly enjoyed the community in which she lived, Delta Manor, and made many friends during her time there. Marg enjoyed the company of her sister-in-law, Jeannette Goodridge. Jeannette’s daughter-in-law, Daphne Goodridge was also very close to Marg, and provided much appreciated love and support.
Margaret was loving, loyal, and always fun. She was truly loved by her children, grandchildren, and all who knew her. Those closest to her will miss her love and encouragement.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017 in the common-room at 100 Adamar Road (Delta Manor). All are welcome.
The family would like to thank the staff of Grace Hospital, especially the ICU, for their excellent treatment and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Siloam Mission or the Winnipeg Humane Society would be appreciated.
