Roger is also survived by two brothers, Robert (Judy) and Paul (Margaret) Lapointe as well as brothers-in-law Eric, Kane and Marc Buschau, sisters-in-law Jodi (Rich) Nault, Diana Buschau, nieces Tanya, Shannon, Jesse, Randee and nephew Jordan.
Roger was predeceased by his father and mother, Philippe and Isobel Lapointe.
A public memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on June 11, 2018 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 1541 St. Mary’s Road, Winnipeg, MB. Parking is available in the St. Vital Mall parking lot, adjacent to the church.
Roger was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, growing up on Lyndale Drive in Norwood Flats and attended school in the area.
He joined the Winnipeg Police Service on October 29, 1975, retiring January 30, 2010, having served 34.5 years, badge #956. Roger was a well liked, honest and hard working officer, creating many partnerships and friendships throughout his career. During his career he was a top police competitive shooter, a member of the Winnipeg Police Pipe Band for 10 years and thoroughly enjoyed his 15 years in the Traffic Division.
Roger and Kris married in 1981, and in 1987, their first daughter Victoria was born. In 1992, they had their second child, Natasha. Roger adored his daughters, spending countless hours with them at soccer and at the pool during their swimming careers with the Manitoba Marlins. Roger served a term as President of the swim club and worked his way up the Senior Official ranks. Roger was their biggest fan, always supportive, but not afraid to give them tough love.
In 2008, his grandson Hayden was born and the greatest grandpa/grandson duo was created. Hayden stole papa’s heart and the two were inseparable for the ten years they had together. Roger enjoyed taking Hayden to archery and swim lessons, always with a stop at Tim Hortons on the way.
Roger was a long time active member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and served on the Board of Elders for many years. He was actively involved with Beautiful Savior Lutheran School, serving as the Chairman of the School Board at the time of his passing.
The family would like to thank numerous friends, coworkers, church/school family, the Winnipeg Police Service and Winnipeg Police Association for their generous support during this difficult time.
Roger and his family were extremely grateful for the professional and compassionate care he received from the doctors, nurses and all assistant staff on 6E at the St. Boniface Hospital. Special thanks to Palliative Care and Chaplin Services.
Donations in memory of Roger may be made to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, Winnipeg Police Museum, Manitoba Peace Officer Memorial Foundation, Beautiful Savior Lutheran School or a charity of your choice.
A public memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on June 11, 2018 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 1541 St. Mary’s Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
