BERTHA KAWZ

(née Lust)

June 28, 1932 – June 6, 2019

With heavy hearts, we announce that Bertha passed away on June 6, 2019 in Riverview Health Center, at the age of 86 years.

She is predeceased by her husband Karl. She is survived by her daughter Jeany (Victor) Matias; grandchildren Carlos Matias and Vanessa (Nolan) Harriott; great-grandchildren Evan and Adrian.

Bertha came to Winnipeg as a young woman, she met Karl and married and had their daughter, Jeany. Bertha spent her years as a cleaning lady but more importantly a wife and mother. She was an excellent baker and cook. Even in her years at Riverview she was known as the person you could count on to make cabbage rolls and pierogis.

Bertha spent many years at Riverview Health Centre. She would greet visitors with a hello and a smile.  Bertha’s pride lied in her family. While having many lunches with her family, she would introduce people walking by to them.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the amazing staff at Riverview Health Centre. She made many friends and encountered many special people in her time at Riverview. With her varying knowledge of different languages, she tried her best to greet each special friend in their mother tongue.

We ask that everyone raise their glass and toast this special lady; friends and relatives are encouraged to share in a eulogy, stories and condolences for the family by commenting on the comments section of this page.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and her ashes were laid to rest in Chapel Lawn cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation are greatly appreciated.
