BRUCE INSTANCE

Bruce passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, December 2, 2017.

Bruce leaves to mourn his loving wife Denise; son Derek (Erica); grandchildren Ryan and Presley; son-in-law Ashton; brothers Dave (Susan) and Stu (Shirley); sister Carole; brother-in-law Denis; mother of his children Connie, best friends Darcy & Sheri, and his many nieces, nephews, and countless friends and acquaintances. He was predeceased by parents Fred and Joanne; daughter Darci, mother and father-in-law Cora and Yvon and brother-in-law Randy.

Bruce grew up in the North End after the family moved from Stony Mountain.  He attended school at Shaughnessy Park followed by Sisler High School and later went to Red River Community College for Meat Cutting.

While growing up, Bruce was involved in many sports including Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Golf, and Hockey.  He played both little league and club hockey at Shaughnessy Park CC and Northwood CC and would later play AAA hockey with River Heights and St James.  He would continue to play many of these sports into adulthood, playing for many rec hockey teams, and beer league baseball / fastball teams both in Winnipeg and Prince Rupert BC.  Along with playing these sports, he would also officiate both baseball and hockey.  His true passion later in life was found on the golf course.  Over the years, Bruce was a member at Prince Rupert Centennial Golf Club, Bel Acres Golf Club, and Assiniboine Golf Club.  While a member of Assiniboine, Bruce won a couple Club Championships, won a Manitoba Club Champions Championship and competed in Whistler for the Canadian Club Champions Championship.  He would also serve on the Board of Directors in various roles.

Bruce’s worked many jobs out of high school both in Winnipeg and Prince Rupert BC, but after his schooling for meat cutting, he had found his niche.  He would find himself in various roles with Safeway, Harry’s Foods, Sales Rep for Direct Distribution followed by Macdonald’s Consolidated where he would later take a role as Meat Coordinator in Calgary.  He would move back to Winnipeg and work at Mariner Neptune, Fredettes Family Foods, Portage Family Foods, Dakota Family Foods and most recently Cold Country Pork.  Along with his career, Bruce would work at Fantasy Lake Golf Course, teaching the game he loved!

Bruce had a couple hobbies outside of sports.  He enjoyed spending time outside at the trailer in Netley Creek with Denise, he became a Candy Crush “expert”, and enjoyed spending time with his “girls”.  Granddad as he became known, spent a lot of time with his Granddaughters and they became the king and queens of the “selfie”.

Bruce volunteered in many capacities over the years.  He coached a lot of hockey prior to, during and following his kid’s involvement playing the sport.  Volunteered at St James Presbyterian (when asked by Mom), Alpha House, and served on the Board of Directors at Willow Center.

The family would like thank Dr. C. Kim and Dr. P. Daeninck for their kindness and care and Bruce’s (Home) Palliative Care team for keeping him comfortable.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2017 in the Central Church of Christ, 170 St. Mary’s Road with the Rev. Matt Brough officiating.

In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to The Children’s Wish Foundation (Manitoba Chapter).
