SHELDON HAAS
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear son, brother, uncle, husband and friend. Sheldon passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre, with family and friends at his side, on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the age of 50.
Sheldon is survived by his parents Connie & Hilton Haas. His wife Beverley Weir. His sister Kelley Post (Larry), his brother Shawn (Julie) and his sister Dawn MacAulay (Darryl). He loved and was loved by his nieces and nephews.
Sheldon was born on May 30, 1967 in Swan River, Manitoba. After high school in 1985, he attended the University of Manitoba pursuing a computer science degree.
Sheldon was a manager with A&W for almost 30 years. He gave his young employees experience, knowledge and power to not only develop career skills but also life skills. They may have resulted in cleaning duties, lowered wages or a scolding but at the end of the day he helped raise them with discipline and self-awareness, while teaching the value of hard work. It was said often by Sheldon himself that these young employees were his children. His devoted actions and support towards them spoke louder than words. The environment he provided was one of love. He wasn’t just a boss but a leader and a mentor. He turned colleagues into family.
Sheldon had a lifelong passion for pool and was well respected in the pool community. Sheldon played in Aactive Pool League for over 20 years, most of them as a captain. He was a certified referee for 12+ years and the head referee of Aactive pool league for the last 7 years. As well, Sheldon played in the CPA pool league for 28 years. He competed in various tournaments over the years including the VNEA competition in Las Vegas with Aactive and the National APA competition in Las Vegas with the CPA league. He treated competitors with the utmost respect.
When he wasn’t playing pool he enjoyed a round of golf or long walks, along with following his favorite teams in the sports of football, baseball, basketball and hockey.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, January 20th from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at Triple B’s at 121 Scurfield Boulevard. Please come and share your favorite stories of Sheldon with family and friends.
