Bob Goring

January 15, 1927 - September 23, 2017

Robert 'Bob' Goring

It is with heavy hearts that on September 23, 2017 our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, Bob Goring, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side at the age of 90.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 69 years, Audree; children Butch Goring (Paula), Bonnie Porter (Bernie), David Goring (Gale), Terry Goring; step-son Barry Haggerty (Sharon); daughter-in-law Catherine Goring; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Born January 15, 1927 in St. Boniface. He grew up in St. Vital, St. Boniface and has spent the last 33 years living in Transcona. He worked his entire career with CN, starting out on the road with the gangs and then becoming a welder. He retired in 1986 after 43 years of dedicated service.

Bob had three great loves; His wife, his kids and his hockey. We are not sure in which order.

His passion in life was hockey. He started playing at the early age of 9 when his Grandpa Lobban bought him his first pair of skates.  He played hockey in Warren Manitoba, Dauphin Manitoba and played minor pro in London England for the Wembley Monarchs. Following his hockey career Bob coached both youth baseball and hockey in Winnipeg.

One of many hi-lights in his life was witnessing his son Butch win the Stanley Cup four times with the New York Islanders.

With his keen eye for talent, wisdom and affection with which he assessed the NHL landscape, Bob scouted for the NHL’s Los Angles Kings and Boston Bruins. His friends nicknamed him “Satellite Bob” because of countless hours spent watching the NHL games.

He rarely missed a Winnipeg Moose game thanks to his longtime friends Mark Chipman and Craig Heisinger. The NHL returning to Winnipeg brought him so much joy as he was fortunate to attend many Jets games as well. There was great mutual respect between Bob and the hockey community.

Bob’s outgoing personality and sense of humour made him an admired member of the community. The outpouring of care and concern over the last year was greatly appreciated. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and friend whose loving passion will live on.

According to his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no service.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the True North Youth Foundation (TNYF).

The family wishes to thank the WRHA Home Care and the dedicated workers for their care and compassion during a very difficult time assisting us in keeping with Dad’s wishes to stay in his home. We were truly blessed to have such a wonderful, caring man in our lives. Dad, you will be sorely missed, forever loved and always remembered. Rest in Peace.
