ALAN STANLEY FARRANT
After a long and valiant battle with cancer, Alan passed away on October 28, 2017. He will be forever remembered by his wife Cathie; his sister Ann Mapplebeck and her husband John and their family; step-son Adam Henwood and many friends around the world.
Alan immigrated to Canada from England in his early twenties. He enjoyed success as a professional in automotive engineering. He was always conscientious in his work. He was often one of the most knowledgeable people in the room, but was never one to boast or seek approval of others. He became a mentor for many people within the industry and was known as an honest man who wouldn’t undervalue anyone. He always looked for the good in people and resisted becoming jaded. There are very few people as dignified and respectful as Alan was.
His hard-working attitude was apparent to all who knew him. He appreciated nature in all its forms. He was an avid birdwatcher and nature photographer. He loved his dogs, Josh and Cooper, and his horse, Oceans. He was a good friend to all who knew him and he will be fondly remembered.
In keeping with Alan’s wishes, no formal service will be held. A celebration of life will take place in the spring at the home of close friends. A tree of remembrance will be planted at this time in his honour. In remembrance of Alan, smile at a stranger, help someone in need, and always remember that a friendly word can change the lives of many people.
This was long and difficult road. Many people have helped us along the way. Special thanks to Joan and Roddy McKay; Debbie and Charlie Siegel; Karen and Ed Mante; and Donna and Wayne Hanks; also special thanks to Barb Lloyd-Schimdt; and Richard Saunders. I would like to express my heartfelt and sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of Five North of the Victoria General Hospital, especially Albert, Robert, Christina, Jerry, Sevgi and Dr. Jeannie Young.
Special thanks to all the visits from the New Flyer crowd. I would also like to thank the people from Waldenway for their care and concern. Also special thanks to the staff at Best Western Hotel in Headingley, Manitoba for all of their support.
In lieu of flowers, please donate your time to your local animal shelter, and if possible, adopt a pet.
