DANIEL "DAN" MCNEILL

“My chains are gone, I’ve been set free.

My God, My Savior has ransomed me.”

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Dan McNeill.  He passed away peacefully on the morning of July 3rd, 2017.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Bev, his children, Kent (Julie), Karla (Arno); grandchildren Mitchell, Kahlan, Connor, Gavin, McKenna, and Mathias.  He is survived by his siblines, Evangeline (Lyle), Elaine, Charlie, Ruth, and Bob (Leslie) from across Canada and the United States as well numerous nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Sharyn Funk (Paul) and mother-in-law Roena Johnston.

Alexander Daniel McNeill was born April 7, 1941 in Grand View, Manitoba to Alec and Anna McNeill.  His father was a school teacher and they lived in various places in rural Manitoba.  He met the love of his live, Beverly Sheryl Johnston, in 1962 at Calvary Temple in Winnipeg.  They were married in 1966 and spent all their years together.  Their marriage stands as a model of commitment and faithfulness.

Danny loved to be on the go and active.  He loved playing golf, squash, curling, riding dirt bikes, fixing anything that was broken, boating, and water skiing.  He enjoyed spending as much time as he could at the family cabin at Pelican Lake driving the boat for the kids and teaching them how to ski.  In his later years, he loved watching his grandchildren play and grow up at the cabin.  He was always ready for a game of cribbage or hearts and was ready to put his skill up against anyone.  Danny always had a twinkle in his eye, a ready smile, and a helping hand to anyone that needed him.  His smiles would light up his face especially when with his wife or his grandkids.

Danny was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease when he was only 43.  He was one of the longest surviving patients of the disease that the Deer Lodge Movement Disorder Clinic had ever seen.  For the past two years, he was at the Golden Links Lodge in Winnipeg and was looked after with grace and compassion by the wonderful nurses and staff.  The family is truly thankful and appreciates the care that he received while his was there.  He loved the special attention that the nurses would give him, all the while with that smile on his face.

A celebration Danny's life will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 1:00 pm. in the Oasis Church, 940 Elmhurst at Wilkes. (map below)

In his way of always being there to help others in need, at his request, his brain has been given to further Parkinson’s research.  In like sprit and in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to:
