PATRICIA ANN BOYER
(née Geluch)
Patricia Ann Boyer, age 65, passed away peacefully with family at her side, after her courageous battle with cancer, on Friday, January 25, 2019. Pat was born April 15, 1953 in St. Boniface, MB and will be forever missed.
Pat will be lovingly remembered by her husband Marcel whom she married in October, 2011. She is also mourned by her sons, Murray (Kelly) and Robert (Amanda); step-daughter Gisele (Keith); and grandsons, Aiden, Ashton, Hudson, and Freddie. Also mourning her loss is her brother John, and numerous family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Phyllis Geluch.
Pat raised her two sons, MJay and Robert alongside Jay, enjoying camping, travelling and times spent with the Ihme family, the Emerson Crew, and friends in Brandon and Winnipeg. Pat was delighted to see her sons get married and her life filled with joy when her grandsons entered the world.
Pat loved to be at the lake. Her passion for the outdoors began with childhood summers spent in the Whiteshell, swimming at Rainbow Falls, hiking to Pine Point Rapids, water-skiing at White Lake and growing up at their cabin at Red Rock. She treasured the serenity of nature, wandering the forests picking berries and harvesting wild mushrooms. With a family of her own, Pat continued to foster her love of the outdoors spending a decade volunteering for the Boy Scouts with her children where camping and teaching resourcefulness was the weekend routine.
Always exploring new places, Pat fell in love with the beaches of Manigotagan. Over the past 20 years, she and Marcel spent their summers at the lake fishing, tanning on the beach, enjoying drinks and laughs with friends around the campfire. To escape the cold winter wind, she and Marcel turned to Mesa, Arizona, where they gathered with friends, enjoying happy hours with shared laughter, creating lasting memories. Pat and Marcel loved to travel, they visited Cuba, Thailand, Alaska and took many cruises together.
Pat was extremely fond of cooking, quilting, travelling, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. She cherished the burden of making holiday meals, never forgetting her Ukrainian heritage and the endless parade of courses that must be prepared. Lately, she discovered a fervent passion for quilting, awakening her creative spirit, sewing lasting keepsakes to cherish. Pat’s sense of community went beyond her local sports teams, actively volunteering with the Red Cross helping those in need.
Always a devoted Grandma, Pat loved to cheer on Ashton at his hockey games and Aidan at his baseball games, play with Hudson in the yard and lovingly rock her newest grandson Freddie. Grandma liked to take the boys to the movies, spoiling them with popcorn and treats. She would always bring a craft to work on with the boys and enjoyed to read to them.
Pat had a special relationship with cousins Les and Judy, spending many holidays and trips together, most recently they travelled across eastern Canada in the fall of 2017 to see the east coast and everything in between. She was “Auntie Pat” to Jackie, who she shared a special bond with. Their care and support during her illness will always be remembered by Marcel and family.
Pat would not let this disease get in the way of the things she wanted to do. Over the past year she travelled to California to see the magic of Disney in Ashton and Hudson’s eyes. They travelled to B.C. in August to visit Marcel's sister Sylvia and husband Ron, her cousin, Linda and of course Robert, Amanda and her newest grandchild Freddie. They travelled to Beulah, ND to visit close friends Myron and Carrie, and to the Grand Canyon with lifelong friend Marlene just the week before her body would succumb to cancer.
Pat was strong willed and always strived to achieve her goals. Pat was frugal and could always find the best deals wherever she went! She was one of a kind. With a heart so large, Pat formed countless relationships throughout her life, holding friends near and far, she cherished every one of them. Whether travels with Julie, visits with Louise, or coffee dates with Judy, Pat loved every moment she could spend with her friends.
Our family would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to the staff at St. Boniface hospital for providing quality care to Pat. A special thanks to the staff on the 6th floor whom always showed compassion towards Pat and her family.
Marcel and family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to everyone who has been so supportive with their help and prayer. The family would like to extend their thank you for all the flowers, cards, food, visits and support during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, her wishes were that donations can be made to Emerson Minor Sports in honour of her grandsons or to a charity of one’s choice.
To honour Pat’s life and memory, a Celebration of Life event will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 7th, 2019 at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road (Unitarian Church).
