Thomas Berry

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Tom Berry, respected professor, outdoor enthusiast and loved Father and Grandfather.  


Surviving to mourn his loss, his daughter Dana Dolphin, her husband Derek, grandchildren Dayton and Dayvanee and numerous friends. Tom’s grandchildren were the light of his life. He devotedly attended every hockey game and many gymnastic practices; he was always eager to support his grandchildren whom he loved dearly. 


Tom was predeceased by his parents, Don and Dorothy, his adored wife of 47 years, Susan and his beloved son, David. 


Raised in St. Thomas, Ont. where he met his wife, Susan, Tom went on to attend the University of Waterloo where he earned his PhD. After a year teaching at the University of Arizona, Tom was hired in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Manitoba where he taught for 38 years. Tom had a great passion for teaching and received numerous awards in education excellence. Tom’s love of math and science also allowed him to work for Bristol Aerospace on the Oedipus-A project.   Tom’s many other passions included, sled dog racing, Scouting, wood carving, hunting and many other outdoor activities. In recent years his favourite outdoor activity would be fishing, on his boat, with his beloved grandchildren. 


The family would like to thank Dr Rush, Dr Weibe, Dr Karpinski and the staff at the Renal Transplant Program. The staff at the Health science center Home Hemodialysis Unit and Dr Gravelle and staff at the Ste Anne hospital, palliative care. 


In accordance with Tom’s wishes there will be no ceremony or service.

Dad, you’re needed with Mom and David now. You will be missed greatly and your memory will live on in our hearts, always. You are loved and missed beyond measure.
