Herbie Ahmo

March 10, 1969 - October 13, 2017

HERBIE WAYNE AHMO

Peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2017, Herbie Ahmo passed away at his home at the age of 48 years.

Herbie is survived by his five children, Tyler, Mandi, Austin, Natasha, Morgan and four granddaughters Elizabeth, Lily-Anne, Annabella and Paislee. Also survived by brothers Randy and Brian.

A celebration of his life will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road.

Herbie Wayne Ahmo was born in Winnipeg on March 10, 1969 to mother Doreen Ahmo and father Joseph Szebenyi.

Herbie was predeceased by his mother and survived by his father. As a young child Herbie, his mother and older brother Joey would leave Winnipeg for Vancouver. This is where where Herbie would grow up and the family would grow. Doreen married Earl Scott and had 3 more children, George and the twins Jennifer and Kevin.

Herbie made his way back to Winnipeg in his late teens always working hard at whatever he did. One of his favorite jobs was window washing for D.A. Matthews. where he could be seen swaying from tall buildings around the city. He would later obtain his Class 1 drivers license and spent his last few years cruising the streets of Winnipeg for Meyers Bros. Trucking Ltd.

Herbie really felt family was important and would go on to father 5 beautiful children.  Tyler (26), Mandi (24), Austin (22)  Natasha (15) and Morgan (9). He was a grandfather to 4 girls, Elizabeth, Lily-Anne, Annabella and Paislee (and one on the way). Wayne adored his kids and always wanted to be an involved dad, provide his children with life experiences and lessons.... sometimes the hard way.  He wanted them to be self-sufficient, responsible and respectful adults, knowing life wouldn't always be easy but to always live it to their fullest despite life's curve-balls.

Speaking of curve-balls Herbie did enjoy watching sports and attending various sporting events. Herbie loved to fish and could be seen casting his rod from shores around Manitoba either solo, with family or friends.  Playing pool just like the "shark" he was ,and of course he loved to play BINGO how could we forget his all time favorite game and he would often say he would not go back and the next week he would do it all over again.  He was a great friend to all that knew him he would be there if you needed him lending a hand wherever and making things happen no matter the case.

Herbie will be missed by his children and grandchildren very much.  However his children will keep his memory alive sharing stories of ``Grandpa Herbie`` and the man he was. Many friends will mourn the loss of this man and feel his absence when they no longer have his shoulder to lean on or his listening ear to lend.

We shall all mourn this great loss but know that one day we shall meet again to share a hug, a laugh and perhaps a swift kick in the pants.

Grateful to have met you, love you and know you.

Rest in peace, dear Herbie.
